At GC Skin MedSpa in Sherman Oaks, California, we understand that achieving and maintaining a youthful appearance is a top priority. One question we often hear from our clients is, ‘How long do different fillers last?’ Let’s explore the science behind filler longevity and how you can maximize the results.

Understanding Filler Durability

When the FDA gives its seal of approval to a filler, it provides an estimate of how long you can expect the results to endure. While individual experiences may vary, these FDA guidelines serve as a valuable reference point for our skilled injectors as they craft personalized treatment plans for you. Various filler materials, including fat, exhibit different behaviors post-injection.

Prolonging Your Filler’s Lifespan

Fillers naturally degrade over the first few months following treatment, but the results can still be visible due to their ability to retain water. However, around the halfway mark of the expected duration, you may start to notice a reduction in volume.

The secret to getting more mileage from your fillers lies in anticipating this volume decrease through a phased approach. At GC Skin MedSpa, we specialize in creating tailored treatment plans for facial rejuvenation and contouring. Our packages are thoughtfully designed to extend the longevity of your results and typically include two treatment appointments where we strategically layer and build upon the fillers.

Our approach to non-surgical facial rejuvenation and contouring encompasses a comprehensive, multi-phase plan aimed at providing enduring results. We recommend touch-up treatments every 9 to 12 months.

Filler Longevity Across Treatment Areas

While our goal is to keep you looking your best year-round, we can offer general insights into how long fillers typically last in various treatment areas:

Under Eye Fillers: Hyaluronic acid-based fillers, such as VERSA, can yield results lasting up to 12 months or even longer when addressing the tear trough area under the eyes. VERSA is a favored choice due to its ability to provide support to the delicate skin in this region.

Cheek Fillers: Utilizing hyaluronic acid fillers like JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® can create results that endure for up to 24 months. A recommended touch-up at the 12-month mark helps maintain and extend these effects. VOLUMA and RADIESSE® are denser gels that deliver the lift needed for more youthful-looking cheeks. RADIESSE typically lasts around 15 months, with a touch-up at 7 months. Sculptra, a collagen stimulator, produces gradual results that can persist for 2 years or more.

Lip Fillers: Lip augmentation with fillers can maintain results for up to 12 months or more, typically requiring multiple treatments. It may take up to 3 sessions to achieve the desired outcome. Popular fillers for lip enhancement include VERSA.

Corner of the Mouth Fillers: Hyaluronic acid fillers can produce results that last for a year, with a touch-up treatment at 6 months. Most fillers work well in this area, although hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if accidentally injected into a blood vessel (an extremely rare occurrence).

Chin Fillers: Chin augmentation with fillers, such as JUVÉDERM VOLUMA, RADIESSE, or a combination of products, can yield results lasting between 15 and 24 months with touch-up treatments. Enhancing the chin creates a well-defined profile that both men and women desire.
