Contraindications

  • You are not a candidate for this procedure if you have any of the following conditions:
    • Pacemaker or internal defibrillator, or other metallic or electronic implant anywhere in the body.
    • The Hand piece should be used at least 1cm away from cochlear implants in the ear.
    • Permanent implant in the treated area such as metal plates, screws and metal piercing or silicon, unless deep enough in the periosteal plane.
    • Current or history of skin cancer, or any other type of cancer, or pre-malignant moles.
    • Pregnancy and nursing.
    • Severe concurrent conditions, such as cardiac disorders or sensory disturbances.
    • Impaired immune system due to immunosuppressive diseases such as AIDS and HIV or use of immunosuppressive medications.
    • Poorly controlled endocrine disorders, such as diabetes or thyroid dysfunction and hormonal virilization. 
    • Any surgery in the treatment area performed within a year prior to treatment. •
    • Having received treatment with light, laser, RF, or other devices in the treated area within 2- 3 weeks for non-ablative procedures, and 6-12 weeks for ablative fractional laser resurfacing (according to treatment severity) prior to treatment, except special recommendations.
    •  Treating tattoos or permanent makeup. 
    • • Treating over the lips. 
    • • Treating over eyebrows or other hair-bearing surfaces.
    • Botox in the last two weeks
    • Used any retinol, glycolic acid, tretinoin, vitamin A or E products in the last 10 days 
    • History of keloid scarring or poor wound healing 
    • Use of Accutane within 6 months prior to treatment.

Before your procedure

  • 2 WEEKS BEFORE treatment, avoid sun exposure (tans/burns/tanning beds/spray tans)
  • 10 days  BEFORE treatment, discontinue all topical products containing Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinols, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Vitamin C, or any anti-aging products.
  • 10-14 DAYS BEFORE treatment, do not ingest blood thinning medications such as Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, and Aleve. If you have a cardiovascular history, please check with your doctor prior to stopping the use of blood thinners.
  • Also, avoid herbal supplements, such as Garlic, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and Omega-3 capsules.
  • 3 DAYS BEFORE We recommend starting Arnica tablets to minimize bruising.
  • 2 DAYS BEFORE treatment, do not drink alcoholic beverages.
  • AVOID bleaching, waxing, tweezing, or using depilatory creams in the treatment area.
  • Use sunscreen with UVA/UVB protection with SPF 30 or higher.
  • If you have a history of Herpes or cold sores, a course of antiviral medication before and after treatment is required. Please call our office for a prescription.
  • Day of your procedure, please come to the office without make-up, creams, gels, or lotions on treatment areas. We will have you wash your face when you arrive at the practice. A topical anesthetic will be applied to your skin, and you will numb for 45-60 minutes
  • Notify the clinic with any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment.

What to expect

  • Minimal pinkness/redness may last for up to 1 week.
  • Immediately after your treatment most patients will experience a clinical endpoint of erythema (redness) for 1-3 days, however for more aggressive treatments this may last longer. Slight to moderate edema (swelling) and  mild to moderate sunburn sensation are also common post treatment and may last 1-3 days. 
  • Skin may crust and peel for 2-7 days depending on the treatment setting.
  • Skin may feel warm and tighter than usual
  • Skin may crust and peel for 3-7 days after treatment
  • Superficial bruising may occur, typically around the eyes.
  • Small needle marks may be present for a few days to a week post-procedure
  • Multiple treatments over a period of several months may be required to achieve the desired response. You will notice immediate as well as longer term improvements in your skin. The time for skin cell turnover is 28 days so most people will begin to see increased results after this time.

After your procedure

  • Makeup may not be worn for 72 hours after the procedure. If there are no areas with active oozing and warm redness, makeup may be applied after this time.
  • There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, avoid scrubbing or trauma to the treated areas, as if you had a sunburn.
  • Use cold water to wash your face for 72 hours after the procedure.
  • Sleep in a slightly elevated position for the first 2-3 days to help prevent additional swelling
  • 2 DAYS AFTER Avoid consuming alcohol and/or smoking 2 days after your procedure.
  • 4 DAYS AFTER Avoid taking NSAIDS (Aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.), Vitamin E, Fish oil, Gingko Biloba, Ginseng, and St. John’s Wart to reduce your risk of bruising and swelling.
  • 10 DAYS AFTER Avoid direct sun exposure for 10 days post-treatment  to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (darker pigmentation). The use of zinc oxide sunblock spf 30 at all times after 72 hours. NO TANNING BEDS.

Precautions

If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact our office immediately: blistering, crusting, scarring, or other changes in skin texture. If you notice the onset of any of these symptoms, call our office immediately at (818) 458-9556 to speak with a provider. If the symptoms are severe, please call 911 or go to the emergency room.

  • Schedule your follow-up appointment 3-5 weeks after each treatment.
